biogro certified new zealand logo

eco-neem is a registered organic insecticide for the control of insect pests on fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, lawns and in potting soil.Effective against chewing insects including caterpillars, black beetle larvae, citrus leafminer, bronze beetle, grass grub beetle, leaf roller, potato beetle and sucking insects including aphids, whitefly, psyllid, scale, mealybugs, mites and thrips.

Why is eco-neem better than Neem Oil?

Neem oil is made from the fruits and seeds of the marvellous neem tree, Azadiracta indica, native to India. In the Indian subcontinent Neem trees have been used for millennia in natural medicine to treat aches and pains, skin conditions and as insect repellent.

Raw neem has a very complex molecular structure, with the seed kernels containing the highest concentration of useful compounds. Azadirachtin is the substance in neem that delivers the insecticidal effect, so it is the most important ingredient for garden insect control.

Azadirachtin can be extracted from raw neem seed and concentrated, to create a botanical insecticide with much better performance than simple pressed neem oils. eco-neem is extracted by a hydro-distillation process to preserve the purity of the azadirachtin compound. No hexane or ethane solvents are used in the process, so eco-neem is free of the solvent residues found in some other azadirachtin-based products. Check for hazard diamond icons on product labels – these may indicate the presence of solvents.

eco-neem

eco-neem is authorised and registered by ACVM in New Zealand for use on edible fruits and vegetables, which means our product has passed stringent requirements including residue analysis, submission of independent field trial data, and an environmental degradation assessment. On top of that, eco-neem is certified by BioGro NZ as an input for organic production/gardens.

How does Azadirachtin work?

Azadirachtin in eco-neem works in multiple ways to control insects. The two main modes of action are suppression of insect appetite (they starve to death) and restricting growth (juveniles are unable to moult successfully). Plant damage stops as soon as the insect ingests eco-neem but insect death may take several days depending on their size and type. eco-neem is safe for pets, birds and beneficial insects, including bees. Avoid using around waterways, as it can be harmful to fish.
